Memorable Memorial Day

Ed and I had a low key memorial day Monday, but we topped it off with a bang, getting freezes at Fiiz!

We played a little pickleball before hand to justify the extra calories! Evening pickleball is the best. It's not too sunny and not too hot outside!

We spent the morning in Lambert Park, first watering seedlings and then just looking at plants and ladybugs!

We couldn't resist stopping by to see the poppies, which are in full bloom at Lambert Ruin!

The sego lilies are also in bloom! Isn't May the best? Every day we discover a new flower! And, happily, many of them are old friends from last spring!

Fairview Grave Decorating

We met at my mom's house yesterday to go down to Fairview to decorate graves. Clementine can not only climb onto the piano bench alone, but knows how to look right at the camera and smile! Mom's house is being remodeled, and the piano was the only piece of furniture in the living room!

It's a lot of work cleaning the stones and hammering holes into the ground to place the flowers.

Mabel wanted to help. So, she got to hold the flowers! This is the beautiful view from my Dad's grave!

John asked Mabel what was in the graves. She said "skeletons," so I guess she has the right idea.

Mom got a little worn out in the hot sun, but she was still able to lead us to all the graves of our ancestors, and there are five generations in Fairview!

We ran into my cousin Debra and Aunt Nadine and family at the cemetery.

Mabel made a little friend with ehr third cousin, Evelyn!

We had a picnic outside the museum. We had brought a lot of food, but met some new friends who gave us a lot of their leftover food! We weren't uncomfortable abut that. All people from Fairview are family, anyway!

Kids and Blooms

Brittany's babysitter is out of town for a week, so we helped out a little with the kids. She works 5 hours each day, so we had them in the afternoon for a little play time and a little nap time.

With Clementine now walking and climbing into everything it's really changed things up. Why does a walker seem so much more like a person than a crawler? Her personality is exploding!

In the late (hot) afternoon we took the kids for a walk down to the the poppies.

It was super hard to get a picture of them all smiling at the camera. This was the closest we could get. Brittany did great!

We did most of Alpine Nature Hike #3, but cut it short to give Brittany a break! Clementine is a heavy load on a hot day!

I took a video of Mabel walking on the trail. I didn't realize she ran ahead and did a face plant! Unfortunately, I cut the video off before she exploded in tears!

Slow Jam

The slow jam is gearing up for our big gig at the Alpine Truck roundup! Mark your calendars for Monday, July 16th at the Alpine Truck Roundup. Somewhere around 6 p.m.! Everyone was at practice last night except Hazel! So far we have not all been there at once, but we're cautiously optimistic that everything will be great! At least we're having lots of fun!

We spent time trying to pick a shorter name last night. We ended up with Alpine Sage! We'll see if it sticks!

Fun in the Park

Ed and I are helping out for a few days while Brittany's babysitter is out of town. We took the kids to Legacy Park, yesterday, where Ed got lots of exercise!

It was worth it just to see the smiles on their faces. Clementine is big enough to tell us when she doesn't want to get off the swing yet!

Mabel loved the park, too!

And I enjoyed tripling up with the girls on the purple dinosaur! Isn't summer the best?

Sinks, Waffles and Family History

On Wednesday Mom and I went to pick out sinks and a chandelier for her home remodeling project. She's been really good about it despite having her home in pieces!

Here's a sneak preview of her new wood floors!

In the afternoon I watched Clementine and Mabel while Ed and Brittany went to the Family History Library in Salt Lake. We went for a walk.

It turns out Waffle Love was only 1/2 mile from there house! That was worth pushing a stroller uphill in two directions!

Brittany and Ed went out to eat at Hire's after they finished at the library! I am happy Ed has learned how to take a selfie by himself!

Nature Hike and Garden Tour

Tuesday morning I took some ladies on Alpine Nature Hike #2, May Flowers.

All of the May flowers were still in bloom except the golden currant bush. We also found a ton of new flowers!

We were excited to find the sticky geranium in bloom!

We had a Relief Society Garden tour in the evening. Barbara Camp's yard was an inspiration to us!

She even had fantastic ground cover! I am slightly motivated to try a little harder to get our yard up to snuff!

The Organ is not my Friend, but Rachel is!

Rachel met me at the church this morning to help me figure out some good congregational stops for this organ! It is different than the other organs I've played on, and since I only sub occasionally, I haven't been able to tame the beast!

Fortunately, Rachel  helped me come up with some stops that we think sound pretty good! Next time I play for Sacrament meeting I'll be ready!

Nuttall Christmas Practice

The Nuttalls came over Sunday night to practice a song we're planning to record for our Christmas CD next month. We had fun at practice, despite the distraction of two toddlers running around the whole time!

Just to show you what we were up against, here is a short clip of both Mabel and Clementine playing kazoos!

Choir Party

Saturday was a beautiful day for our choir end-of-season party! We had a great turnout, and great food!

I thought this was a funny picture! Perhaps we could label it Jeff and the Treblemakers!

Ed was in charge of the BBQ, and did a great job on the chicken! Everrt is supervising here! Ed also got the TV working for our little activity afterwards. Thanks, Ed!

After dinner we had a bell choir in the family room. Several people had to leave early, which left only the best for the bell ringing! We played melody and harmony on five different hymns (projected on the tv). We did so good that I wish we had some professional bells we could use for Sacrament Meeting!

PIckleball Champs

Friday was pickleball day! We had such a good time playing the Sardoni's and going out to dinner afterwards at Village Bakers.

We're excited to have a ward pickleball seminar on June 1st, and think there are a lot of people who would enjoy this fun and accessible sport!

Hike, Pianos and Trails

On Wednesday I led some ladies on a the second Alpine Nature Hike! We had such a good time! They were so interested in every flower and remembered many of them we saw last month! It was 2 miles and we took 2 hours. That is a leisurely pace, but we had a lot to see!

I especially love the beautiful wild onions that are in bloom in Lambert Park right now!

At lunchtime I met Mom at Brigham Larsen's piano store. She's trading in her grand piano for an upright to save space in her house. While we were there we had a tour of the piano repair shop. It was very interesting!

In the afternoon, we had a meeting with members of the Alpine Trail Committee and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail Committee to figure out how we could fill in our portion of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, which starts in Idaho and hugs the edge of the mountains all the way south to Nephi. Ed was a medium sized member of the committee! We're hoping to see this trail completed through Alpine within the next year or so! Part of it will run right through Lambert Park!

Little Women Book Club

The Alpine Book Club did a reader's theater of Little Women today! It was interesting to see how much expression the ladies used in their parts! I was the doorbell and sleigh-bell sounds, as I thought I wouldn't be there, but had a change of plans!

The only disadvantage was it took 3 hours to get through the play! Fortunately, Joan had put out chocolate for us to nibble on when we needed a pick-me-up!

Dust off the Cello

We had our first quartet practice today at Barbara's house. She has two friends in South Jordan that want to play music with her. Beth, the violist, had to leave early, but Denise was still here for our inaugural picture! It was fun to play cello and fight with Barbara about who was counting wrong! Just like old times!

Out With the Old!

Ed and I and Annette and Kent went over to help Mom get her house ready to have the old kitchen cabinets taken out. She is also getting new floors, so everything had to go!

We took the furniture out in the garage, and Annette listed it on KSL.com. She sold the couch, love seat and two hutches today to make room for the new furniture!

The whole job only took an hour and a half, as Mom had already emptied all the cupboards herself and stored the items in the garage!

There was a little dirt under the hutches, which Mom swept up despite the fact that the demo crew was coming the next day to take everything out! A lifetime of good housekeeping is hard to give up on!
