Mackinaw City, a Pretty Little Town on a Big Lake

We felt so bad to have to leave Coda behind this morning. Amanda invited her to the wedding, but we figured nobody wants a dog at a reception. She got to stay at the farm, which made her very happy.

Ed and I started out fresh and chipper, for our first big road trip in his new Genesis. I found out even more cool things about the car on the trip. He even let me drive it for an hour! He was happy that when he woke up from his nap we were still going in the right direction. Before GPS that wasn't always the case!

After 12 hours we arrived in Mackinaw City, Michigan, the Gateway to Mackinac Island. The island and the city are both pronounced the same. I'm not sure who stuck a silent 'c' at the end of the island, but rumor is, it was the French!

Our hotel room opens up to Lake Huron, the great lake nobody can ever remember. Maybe this will help us! We walked around town and had dinner. The town is very cute, and we wish we had time to explore it more, but tomorrow we'll be on our way to Duluth where the main event takes place on Friday!
