Bingham Copper Mine and Festival Lationamericano

On Saturday we dropped by to see the Bingham Canyon Mine on the outskirts of Salt Lake County. It is an entire mountain that has been mined down in tiers. They have about 70 giant trucks that fill up with tons of ore 24/7. This is the tire to one of the trucks.

It is strange to have such a giant industrial complex on the fringes of a major city, but I guess the mine was here long before the city spread out to meet it.

We got to ride a shuttle bus to get to the view site. Tickets are $5 per adult, and you can get them in advance online, which was convenient.

I took a picture of Mabel and Clemmie in the sunflowers just as the security guard told me not to go there, as there were rattlesnakes out there. Happily, we didn't meet one!

We went home and rested up, and met again in the evening for the Festival Latinoamericano in Provo. It was so nice, as the sun was starting to set and it wasn't hot out!

We loved the Mexican dancers, but our favorite is always the Andean group with the charango and zamponas  (pan pipes). They are they best! It made us want to go back to Peru again!
