Rainy Fourth

Our ward had breakfast in the park on the fourth of July. It rained intermittently during the affair, which didn't seem to dampen anyone's appetite. We huddled under the shelter for the Star Spangled banner and a short program.

We did a tribute to immigrants with a short talk about the Statue of Liberty, after which Jen sang Give Me your Tired, Your Poor. We all joined in with her after the first verse.

The primary kids did a rousing rendition of the round, America. The rain cleared up later in the day, but never enough to motivate Ed and I to go see a fireworks show. We stayed home and watched  the movie, The Butler on TV, which had a general effect of making me feel bad about myself. It was a harsh reflection on growing up black in a white America.
